Nielsine Nielsen presents:
Wild Workshop #4: Activist Practices
This fourth and last instalment of the Wild Translation Workshop series encourages participants to view their translation practice through the lens of political activism.
We will study the works of 21st-century activist translators – such as Sawako Nakayasu – and pay special attention to the literary form that is the manifesto. Nakayasu’s pamphlet Say Translation is Art (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2021) will be our case study.
In the workshop we will discuss the ways in which one might be an activist (in some form or other) and a translator at the same time.
We will also touch on our own visions for the future of translators in a time that is changing fast due to ChatGPT and other Large Language Models.
